After a change of investment philosophy spurred Holland Hahn & Wills partners Simon Ainley, Chris Hirsch and Jason Lurie to change their business model and their client bank, they are now focusing on increasing profitability

A small IFA firm with a good client base of wealthy City professionals might be expected to be satisfied with its lot. Five years ago Holland Hahn & Wills was just such a firm but its partners, Simon Ainley, Jason Lurie and Chris Hirsch, were far from satisfied. The firm set up in Holborn in 1990, then moved to Hampton Wick in Surrey in 1998 with advisers travelling regularly into London to meet City-based clients. By 2005, Ainley, Lurie and Hirsch decided their model was becoming so broken that they needed to change their investment and charging propositions, and their entire client base. The transition took five years and the partners feel they have only begun to reap the benefits of their brave move in the past 12 months.
